5 creative things to do while you’re stuck at home

1. Rearrange your living space

There is surprisingly a lot more you can do with your space then you may think! Moving your furniture around and adding a little decor can be a nice refreshing change up, especially when you’re spending a lot of time inside.

Putting some photos on the wall of good memories, adding some plants, and cleaning up clutter can go a long way, and be beneficial for your mental health.

“As you rearrange your personal space, you hone your aesthetic and identify what you truly love, want, or need. Such specificity brings relief. As my friend Gwynn used to say, you “get clear.”

Carrie Barron, M.D in Psychology Today

You can find lots of inspiration for your place by searching specific tags on Pinterest relating to your style goals, for example: When I search BOHO bedroom on Pinterest, this is what comes up!

If you want to take it even further, you can learn about design and get some inspiration by researching things like FengShui or the basics of interior design

2. Learn to draw

Drawing can be really therapeutic and is proven to relieve anxiety, and really get your creative brain working. People seem to think If they’re not “artistic” , that they can’t learn to draw. But that’s not true, a lot of art is learned techniques, and there are thousands of tutorials online that can teach you !

Depending on the supplies you have at home, your interests, and your abilities you can find custom tutorials on YouTube for free.

And if you think you might not have the attention span for art, try and start by doodling why you’re watching Netflix, because once you get more comfortable it only gets better.

3. Cooking

Yes! Cooking can be so creative! (I’ll say eating is too) And with the internet, you have a boundless source of recipes at your fingertips. Cooking can be colorful and fun, you can make a range of things from a hearty comfort food dinner, or to make some Easter themed desserts, or some meringue treats.

Meringue is a simple dessert and basically just egg-whites and sugar, check out this tutorial for some pretty meringue dessert by Sugar Geek Show: Easy Meringue Cookie Recipe

An awesome tool if you do not have a lot of ingredients is the free app SuperCook, you can actually just speak into your phone microphone all the ingredients you have while looking in your fridge, and it comes up with recipes for you… Yup – too simple.

As an experiment to test the effectiveness of this app, I said a random 10 ingredients that don’t necessarily go together that came off the top of my head:

Random 10 ingredients:

Butter

Broccoli

Banana

Fruit

Pasta

Cinnamon

Chicken Breast

Peanut Butter

Almond Milk

Coffee

And this was the result, 172 different recipes! Some of the recipes were:

Healthy Chocolate Peanut Butter Shake

Bow Tie Pasta with Broccoli Sauce

Two Ingredient Ice-cream

Cinnamon Roll Waffles

Ok, I’m impressed.

4. Online Photo-album

We all have a million photos, and if you’re like me, they’re sitting on your iCloud until we run out of space. A photo album is a great way to organize your photos and bring them into your home. You could print your own photos, but if you’re stuck at home, you might want to simplify your life and make a photo album using an online service.

Tech Radar rated Mixbook as their favorite service due to its combination of simplicity and high quality. Another good option is Shutterfly.

I signed up for Mixbook and they gave me a 50% off welcome coupon. This is what some of the options look like, I’d say that’s a pretty good deal for a custom photo album.

5. Writing

This can be anything, a personal journal, a poem, a joke, or a blog, writing is good for the soul! I feel like journaling has a child-ish rep, but studies show that journalling is super good for your overall well-being., and some really successful people preach it daily. Check out this awesome article featuring facts on Oprah Winfrey and Steve Jobs.

So, you still think you’re not a “writer”?

A journal can be anything, no one has to ever see it, and it’s just for you. Might as well give it a try! Not to mention, how cool it is to look through old childhood diary’s and be able to remember what you were thinking, it’s like a look into the past.

If you’re looking to write a blog, WordPress and blogger are the most popular. However, there are tons of different options depending on your goals. I chose wordpress because I’m familiar with it, but Wix and Squarespace have been some of my favorites when focusing on more of the website design, it’s super simple.

A blog can be a cool way to get your thoughts and ideas out in the world, who knows maybe it’ll be useful for someone.
